Along with a documentary crew, we also have a writer (who previously wrote for a major newspaper) covering the workshop experience. About three-quarters of the way through the morning she pulled me aside and asked, “Isn’t this a lot of instruction for these kids on the first day?” And she wasn’t wrong: we hit the ground with these guys at 9 a.m. and they didn’t stop or stand up until 1 p.m. for lunch. But after we ate and recharged, these guys were set loose on the incredible LACMA campus to practice making exposures, and they crushed it!  After only a few (grueling) hours of instruction, these students produced incredible images.  In fact, the editor of the documentary crew responded to the images saying, “I can’t show these images in the film; nobody will believe these are from the first day of class!”
