Faculty member Wendy Walsh arrived this morning, coming in on a 5 a.m. flight from Peru. The team assembled as we launched another episode of the Fred Roberts Photography Workshops – this time in Los Angeles. Our inaugural workshop of 2016 is a partnership between the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA), and our students are a mix of talented young adults from the MacArthur Park area of Los Angeles. We spent the day setting up our classrooms at LACMA and the HOLA campus, anticipating one of our best workshops yet.
We’ve added to our workshop a half-day tech session where student leaders and staff get a condensed class on tech and workflow. These students and faculty then provide peer instruction for the other students in the small groups. These “team captains” provide another point of learning, help with the logistics of travel and equipment for the team and guide their groupmates who will become the next day’s captain.
After a long day of carrying and sorting equipment, arranging and rearranging classrooms, and learning about workflow, the staff retired for an amazing inaugural dinner. The energy is high and expectations are higher…this is going to be a great workshop.
