The second day started with all the attitude and excitement possible. From early on we headed towards a place more impressive than we could imagine. The guys entered the classroom, took their cameras, got on the bus, and then we departed towards a plastic bottle collection center. The purpose of this place is based on converting all this discarded plastic into material that can be used again from scratch and is food-grade, normally to be used as food packaging, bottles, etc.
The journey, although long, was comfortable. The students were practicing with their cameras, trying to get accustomed a bit more to each of the buttons and settings they saw on them. The arrival at the collection center was quiet, the workers were very kind and received us with open arms, happy to see us arrive at their facilities and willing to clarify any of our doubts. At first, we saw a couple of videos to understand more of the background of the institution and inform ourselves about what we were about to see… Giant presses, trucks arriving loaded with PET bottles ready to be separated, pressed, and arranged, and a backhoe that arduously gathered and arranged the same PET bottles that were arriving at the center welcomed us, as did a series of workers who take charge of the most elementary processes at the moment of collecting, separating, pressing, and ordering the thousands of tons that have passed through those machines and those hands. The guys looked intrigued, surprised, and excited. They didn’t take the camera off their faces, wanting to capture every detail that interested them; detailed shots of the machines, photos of the staff doing their work, images where the movement and the sensation felt inside the place were reflected. It was a perfect field trip.
The farewell was pleasant, we took a photo of the group together with the staff in charge of the plant, and we returned to the bus to head back to the museum. After a pause for a snack, the guys dedicated themselves to the selection of their best photographs. There were great indecisions when choosing which were the best, because all the photos were good! After discussing it with their groupmates, the photos were selected and everyone was happy with the result.
It was a day very loaded with adventure, fun, and many impressive photographs. We are intrigued by what the guys will be able to do with them tomorrow.
El segundo día empezó con toda la actitud y emoción posible. Desde temprano tomamos rumbo hacia un lugar más impresionante de lo que podíamos imaginar. Los chicos entraron al salón, tomaron sus cámaras, subieron al autobús, y entonces partimos hacia un centro de recolección de botellas de plástico.
El propósito de este lugar se basa en convertir todo este plástico desechado en material que se puede utilizar nuevamente desde cero y en grado alimenticio, normalmente para usarse como empaques de comida, botellas, etc.
El trayecto, aunque largo, fue cómodo. Los alumnos estuvieron practicando con sus cámaras, intentando acostumbrarse un poco más a cada uno de los botones y configuraciones que veían en ellas. La llegada al centro de recolección fue tranquila, los trabajadores muy amables nos recibieron con los brazos abiertos, felices de vernos llegar a sus instalaciones y dispuestos a aclarar cualquiera de nuestras dudas. Al principio vimos un par de videos para entender más el trasfondo de la institución e informarnos sobre lo que estábamos a punto de ver… Prensas gigantes, camiones llegando cargados de botellas pet listas para ser separadas, prensadas, y acomodadas, y una retroexcavadora que arduamente juntaba y acomodaba las mismas botellas pet que iban llegando al centro nos dieron la bienvenida, al igual que una serie de trabajadores quienes se encargan de los procesos más elementales al momento de recolectar, separar, prensar, y ordenar las miles de toneladas que han pasado por esas máquinas y por esas manos. Los chicos se veían intrigados, sorprendidos, y emocionados. No se quitaban la cámara de la cara, queriendo capturar cada detalle que les interesara; tomas a detalle de las máquinas, fotos del personal haciendo su trabajo, imágenes donde se reflejaba el movimiento y la sensación que se sentía en el interior del lugar. Fue una excursión perfecta.
La despedida fue agradable, tomamos una foto del grupo junto con el personal encargado de la planta, y regresamos al camión para dirigirnos nuevamente al museo. Después de una pausa para merendar, los chicos se dedicaron a la selección de sus mejores fotografías. Hubo grandes indecisiones al momento de elegir cuáles eran las mejores, ¡porque todas las fotos eran buenas! Después de discutirlo con sus compañeros de grupo, las fotos fueron seleccionadas y todos estuvieron contentos con el resultado.
Fue un día muy cargado de aventura, diversión, y muchas fotografías impresionantes. Estamos intrigados de lo que los chicos podrán hacer con ellas el día de mañana.
