We are back! After a year, the graduated students from 2025 return for their first advanced class and our second edition of “Advanced” at MARCO (Museum of Contemporary Art). Between memories and nostalgia, they played for a while to regain confidence; ready to start learning more, we had a talk and a small activity to get into the subject. With imagination, they thought about how to transform different everyday objects to avoid discarding them; we all learned how a box could be a house for animals or a bag a liquid filter, even a small plastic container can be a hat for cats. There were very crazy ideas, and we were surprised by their way of imagining alternatives to give them a distinct use and life.
After so much Reducing, Reusing, Recycling, Rethinking, Refusing, and Repairing, we arrived at this year’s theme which is about “RECYCLING.” Already with a more circular mind, we took the cameras and went out to photograph to warm up. The task for this moment was to return with at least one photo with a circle in it which, according to the theme, could be literal or about cycles, environment, and life. And as always doing their homework very well, the students gave us magnificent photos and more than one circle in very different perspectives.

After resting and eating something, they had the opportunity to edit and, since what is well learned is not forgotten, the editing was very fast and almost completely led by themselves. They presented their photos and for all of us, a greater artistic language and criteria was evident when expressing their own works, an explanation with more details and words about photography.

We finished the day hungry for the experience and knowledge that awaits us the next day (and for food…), but before leaving we gave ourselves the task of investigating places in the community that had that circular culture, where with values centered on a sustainable future, alternatives to the everyday ones are found. Sites like shoemakers, recycling centers, and thrift shops were mentioned, clarifying the importance of these initiatives.

¡Estamos de vuelta! después de un año los alumnos graduados del 2025 vuelven para su primera clase avanzada y nuestra segunda edición de avanzados en MARCO (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo). Entre recuerdos y nostalgia, jugaron un rato para volver a tomar confianza; listos para comenzar a aprender más tuvimos una charla y una pequeña actividad para adentrarnos en el tema, con imaginación pensaron en cómo transformar distintos objetos cotidianos para evitar desecharlos, aprendimos todos, cómo una caja podía ser una casa para animales o una bolsa un filtro de líquidos, incluso un pequeño recipiente de plástico puede ser un sombrero para gatos. Hubo ideas muy locas, y nos sorprendió su manera de imaginar alternativas para darles un uso y una vida distinta.

Después de tanto Reducir, Reutilizar, Reciclar, Repensar, Rechazar y Reparar, llegamos al tema de este año que es sobre el “RECICLAJE”. Ya con una mente más circular, tomamos las cámaras y salimos a fotografiar para calentar motores. La tarea para este momento era regresar con mínimo una foto con un círculo en ella que, acorde al tema, podía ser literal o sobre ciclos, ambiente y vida. Y como siempre haciendo muy bien su tarea, los alumnos nos dieron fotos magníficas y más de un círculo en muy distintas perspectivas.

Luego de descansar y comer algo, tuvieron la oportunidad de editar y, como lo que bien se aprende no se olvida, la edición fue muy rápida y casi completamente liderada por ellos mismos. Presentaron sus fotos y para todos nosotros fue evidente un mayor lenguaje y criterio artístico al expresar sus propias obras, una explicación con más detalles y palabras sobre fotografía.

Finalizamos el día hambrientos de la experiencia y conocimiento que nos espera el siguiente día (y de comida…), pero antes de irnos nos dimos a la tarea de investigar sobre lugares en la comunidad que tuvieran esa cultura circular, donde con valores centrados en un futuro sustentable, se hallan alternativas a las cotidianas. Se mencionaron sitios como zapateros, centros de reciclaje, y thrift shops, aclarando la importancia de estas iniciativas.
