Sadly, such a positive perception about America is being doubted around the world – given the absense of civility in your recent political discourse. This is increasingly evident from the daily incidents of backlash against the reality of what is pluralistic population of North America.
Perhaps there is a greater need for a progressive project like yours right here at home where hispanic, muslim, jewish, black as well as white children live in fear, suspicion, envey and anger while sharing the same schools and neighbourhoods in their daily lives. I would say that the results of your global work can best serve the desperate needs of our North American community – right here at home.
Perhaps your global work supported by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) can be showcased and replicated MORE EXTENSIVELY AND WIDELY in North American schools and THROUGH THE MEDIUM OF PUBLIC TELEVISION to awaken and inspire increasingly fearful and insecure Western communities to a higher stabdard of tolerance, crosscultural understanding and an understanding of what it means to be civilized in the complex global community we all share.
In conclusion, my main observation is that through local projects such as the one you implemented last year at the Aga Khan Museum is Toronto, you have whetted our apetite and shown us the way. In this, the AKTC and you have our full support.
