Today, we finally met our students. Of our 20 students, 14 are Afghan refugees. The kids are a fantastic group of students with incredible stories and diverse family narratives.

Our first couple of days of each workshop are similar: we hand out the cameras, give an introduction to how the cameras work and then get right into taking photographs. It’s a lot of time in the classroom and a good bit of practice but these days are critical. Wendy, Sarah and Fred covered the basics of proper exposure and metering. By the end of the first day, students were able to achieve correct exposure in their photographs.

At the end of the day, we downloaded our images and did a group review of the day’s work. We picked the three best images from each student and tomorrow, we’ll be sharing those with the whole class.
