It’s Wednesday already and it’s freezing! No, literally, it’s below freezing this morning in Monterrey and we had a planned a full day of shooting water outdoors, beginning at 8am! Our students are dressed like it’s a polar expedition and I don’t blame them. Even coming from a place where it’s regularly very cold, todays weather was no joke. But our students powered through, with stiff fingers and cold ears, to create some more incredible images!
A great part of the workshops, besides the amount of learning and shooting that we do, is the wonderful locations that our students get to explore. They may not always be glamorous, but they’re definitely interesting. I mean, it’s not too often that you get an in-depth tour of a wastewater treatment plant! An hour away from Monterrey, down the side-road of a side-road, is the water treatment facility “Dulces Nombres”. This is one of 51 water treatment facilities in Nuevo Leon that treats Monterrey’s water: in this case, cleaning black water into water ready for industrial use or discharge back into nature. It’s not the sort of place one visits on holiday, but this vast labyrinth of tanks and processes was a lot more fun to explore than many of us expected, if it WAS a little bit smelly. It was cold and windy, which made the smells more bearable, but we took every opportunity to warm ourselves whenever we found a warm water pipe!
After visiting Dulces Nombres, we went to another facility that processes fresh water into Nuevo Leon’s drinking water. In sight and smell a vastly different experience!
The journey to the plants and back took the better part of the day and we didn’t finish our critique until about 7:30 at night…bringing us in for an 11 1/2 hour day. As we approach the end of the week, they always get longer and we have another early start tomorrow. So enjoy the photos, and we’ll see you tomorrow!
