Our first assignment day! Like always, this is the day when the rubber meets the road. Outside of critique or edit, we’re pretty much done teaching. The students know how to make proper exposures and they’ve practiced using shallow or deep depth of field, and have played with fast and slow shutter speeds to freeze or blur motion. From here on out, we are focusing on using those tools to tell stories.
This week, ours is the story of water. as one of the UN’s sustainability goals, our students are focusing on illuminating the many ways that water is important to our lives, and shedding some light on all the ways we play, build, decorate, create, clean, and depend on water every day.
Our story began for us at a greenhouse program that is exploring what it will take to restore endangered heritage species of fruits and vegetables to monterrey. Based on the recipes from local abuelas, researchers are trying to regrow, and reintroduce plants that once were endemic in the region.
Next we went to the coca-cola bottling factory where every year, they produce 270million litres of coca-cola each day. The scale of production was mind boggling and really put into perspective the volume of manufacturing all around us.
Our last stop was parque La Huasteca, a beautiful national park.
